Family Friendly Campground
Located right on the banks of the beautiful Lake Marion in Vance, SC, Mill Creek Marina has been family owned for more than 25 years. Lake Marion is one of the two largest man-made lakes in the state that make up the Santee Cooper lake system. Our campground is a great place for families and friends to spend time without a huge crowd.
Our 92-site campground is nestled in a natural growth of dogwood, pine, and oak trees and offers family camping (no tent camping) at its best! Coin-operated laundry is available for our campers, and we’re a pet-friendly facility. Mill Creek Marina has an assortment of tackle, live bait, and miscellaneous fishing needs to appease today’s fisherman. The marina also serves as a convenience store for meeting the appetite and needs of boaters and lake lovers alike, including sodas, ice cream, candy, chips, beer, and ice. If that doesn’t satisfy your appetite, you can always enjoy the onsite restaurant, Mill Creek Food & Spirits for delicious sandwiches, burgers, catfish dinners or steak. Liquor, wine, and beer are also available. To contact for hours or to-go orders, please call (803) 492-7550.
For those who don't camp, three motel units with local Direct Satellite television, a fridge, and a microwave are available. A convenient gas pier is located adjacent to the boat ramp. Also available are a T-pier for temporary boat parking, a mini beach for our motel guests and campers to enjoy, and boat slips for lease. If you're interested in professional fishing guide services, we can help you with that, too! Come experience "relaxing 'round the Creek" and see what we're all about.
The Santee Cooper lake system consists of two lakes, Marion (110,600 acres) and Moultrie (60,400 acres). They are joined by the 6.5-mile diversion canal. These world-class fishing lakes were created from 1939 to 1942 for a hydroelectric project by the South Carolina Public Service Authority, commonly known as "Santee Cooper" because of the two river systems the project connected.
The lakes vary from shallow swamps and blackwater ponds to vast open water with a multitude of underwater structures. Lake Marion was not completely cleared, and as a result, fishermen will find there are thousands of stumps, standing dead tree trunks, and live cypress trees. Lake Moultrie is more open and is 14 miles across at its widest point.
These lakes held the world records for Striped Bass (55 lbs.) until 1993, and Arkansas Blue Catfish (109.4 lbs.) until 1996. Other types of fish commonly caught on this lake system are bluegill, crappie, catfish, and bass (largemouth and striped). Because they do not ice over during the winter, these lakes offer fishing year-round, weather permitting.
